Soren Carlson, a rising star from the mountains of Albuquerque, has just committed to swim for the prestigious Stanford Cardinal in 2027. This is a big deal, folks! Soren's journey began with a splash at Albuquerque Academy, where he made a big impact at the New Mexico State Championships as a freshman. He secured top-8 finishes in the 50 free and 100 free, showcasing his talent and determination.
But Soren's success didn't stop there. A year later, he dominated the pool, sweeping his individual events and anchoring two relay teams to victory. His times in the 50 and 100 free were impressive, and he continued to shine at the Sectionals meet in Austin, setting personal bests in the 50, 100, and 200 free events.
Soren's summer long course season was equally impressive, as he took home gold in the 100 and 200 free at the Western Zone Senior Championships. With his best SCY times sitting at 20.75 in the 50 free, 44.98 in the 100 free, and 1:38.94 in the 200 free, Soren has a bright future ahead of him.
And this is the part most people miss: Soren still has two years of high school and a whole junior year to further refine his skills before joining the Stanford Cardinal in 2027. By then, Stanford will have bid farewell to some of their top swimmers in the 50 and 100 free events, creating an opportunity for Soren and his talented classmates to make their mark.
Speaking of talented classmates, Stanford seems to be assembling an incredible team for Soren's class. They've secured commitments from four of the top 20 swimmers in SwimSwam's Way too Early Recruit Rankings, including #2 ranked Luke Vatev, #10 Owen Ekk, #15 Connor Christopherson, and #19 Yi Zheng.
